Magnetite attracts love, commitment and loyalty. Because magnetite has magnetic properties, it acts as a grounding stone and is thought to have powerful positive-negative polarity, meaning it attracts and repels, providing energy and a calming effect. Magnetite Metaphysical Properties Magnetite is believed to alleviate negative emotions such as fear, anger and grief while promoting positive qualities such as tenacity and endurance. Magnetite is also the catalyst for the industrial synthesis of ammonia. Magnetite power was used by the Germans in the 1930s to develop magnetic acetate tape for audio recording. Scientists have discovered evidence that magnetite exists in the human brain and have theorized its presence can affect long-term memory. Magnetite is a rock mineral and, along with hematite, is mined as one of the main iron ores. Magnetite is often used in jewelry due to its supposed magnetic healing properties. The originally bright black color can gradually fade to dark brown via oxidation.

It is the most magnetic of all natural commonly occurring minerals on the Earth. Magnetite is a heavy material, black or brownish-black with a metallic luster.

Naturally-magnetized pieces of magnetite, called lodestone, will attract small pieces of iron, which is how ancient peoples first discovered the property of magnetism. Magnetite was given that name in 1845 by Wilhelm Karl von Haidinger because natural magnets (lodestones) were known to ancient Greeks, who called this mineral "magnet", where was found in the lands of the Magnetes (Magnesia) in Thessaly. Magnetite History Magnetite (not to be confused with magnesite) was originally called lodestone as early as 1548 and by other names such as magnetic hematite.
